Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Felisianu “Dannyboy” Albino from Swakopmund is busy with the construction of a gymnasium combined with a boxing academy in the heart of Swakopmund’s DRC informal settlement (Airport side).
Groundworks kicked off last weekend and according to him they are planning the grand opening for end of November 2026.
Mr Juan Nel, managing partner at one of the main sponsors of the project, Buy a Car, was present last weekend when the groundworks kicked off and expressed his excitement regarding this venture. Nel and Danny noted that the main aim of the gym is to better the lives of Swakopmund youths, trying to keep them from the streets and bad habits through boxing.
“At the gym, we will not only focus on boxing only, but also try to create a sense of responsibility, self-discipline and belonging in the youths, as so many of them are roaming the streets abusing drugs and alcohol without any positive sight for the future,” Dannyboy said. Dannyboy himself, with his years of experience will be training unprivileged youths who are interested in a boxing career.
TDT Boxing Academy and Gym will be open to the whole public. The local and regional authorities, as well as the Swakopmund business fraternity is invited to get on board and assist Dannyboy in his quest for youth upliftment in the unprivileged suburbs of Swakopmund.
