Gymnasts from nine clubs across the country competed at the Namibian Gymnastics Federation’s Novice Rhythmic Gymnastics National Championships in Walvis Bay, with local athletes delivering standout performances on home ground.
Walvis Bay Gymnastics’ Ava Koff claimed the Level 2 title, while clubmate Meivy Mateus emerged victorious in Level 1. Annabel Oosthuizen of Elite Rhythmic took top honours in Level 3, winning the floating trophy.
The championships marked the final event of the 2026 national novice circuit, providing young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their technical ability, coordination, flexibility and artistic expression in a national competitive environment.
The participation of nine clubs highlighted the continued development of rhythmic gymnastics in Namibia, allowing gymnasts to measure their progress against competitors from across the country while gaining valuable competition experience.
The event also underscored the importance of grassroots development as Namibia prepares to host the African Senior Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in 2027 and the African Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics in 2028. With the country preparing for these major continental competitions, nurturing young talent and strengthening development pathways remain important to the future growth of gymnastics.
The strong turnout in Walvis Bay reflected continued interest in the sport and the role of national competitions in helping young athletes build their skills, confidence and competitive experience. Photos contributed.
