Erongo Marine Enterprises (EME) has donated food supplies to eight Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres across the Erongo Region to help fight hunger and improve child nutrition.
The donation was handed over during a World Food Day commemorative ceremony at the Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation in Narraville, Walvis Bay. It comprises 1 800 meal packs, 600 cans of fish and 900 kilograms of frozen fish.
The meal packs are expected to provide approximately 10 800 servings when prepared. The meal packs were prepared through the Oceana Group’s employee volunteering initiative in partnership with Rise Against Hunger. During a Mandela Month campaign, EME employees and stakeholders packed more than 20 000 meals to support vulnerable communities.
Erongo Governor Dr Nathalia /Goagoses praised EME and its partners for contributing to food security, emphasising that proper nutrition is essential for children’s physical development, health and learning.
She described investment in early childhood nutrition as an investment in the region’s future and urged beneficiary centres to ensure the supplies reach the children for whom they are intended. “Government cannot do it alone.
We need the continued involvement of the private sector, development partners, civil society, families and communities,” she said. EME General Manager Clive Kambongarera said the initiative reflected the company’s commitment to helping vulnerable children access nutritious meals and opportunities to thrive.
He acknowledged the support of the Office of the Governor, the Directorate of Education and the Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation in identifying beneficiary centres and facilitating the handover. Jane-Ley Antoncich of the Yahweh Down Syndrome Foundation welcomed the contribution, highlighting the importance of recognising every child’s worth and potential.
The handover reinforced the importance of cooperation between government, businesses and community organisations in addressing food insecurity and improving the well-being of children across the Erongo Region. Photo Credits. Erongo Marine Enterprises
