King Price International Pairs Reaches Regional Final at Rossmund

The annual King Price International Pairs Tournament reached an exciting stage on Saturday, 15 August, with Rossmund Golf Club hosting the Coastal Regional Final.

A total of 14 teams from Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and Rossmund competed for a place in the National Final, producing a strong display of competitive golf under excellent weather conditions.

The overall winners from Walvis Bay were Charles Shayamano and Nathaniel Mudzingwa, who produced an outstanding 48 points. They were closely followed by Quinton Jonck and Lester Hess, who finished second with 46 points.

Seven teams qualified for the National Final, scheduled to take place in Windhoek on 4 and 5 September. The ultimate winners will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Final in Tenerife, Spain, from 5 to 9 October.

The club also hosted a sponsored Betterball Stableford competition, attracting more than 30 players. Shayamano and Mudzingwa continued their strong form, taking first place with 50 points.

Warren Theron Snr and Warren Theron Jr finished second on 47 points, while George Murasiki and Vilho Hanghome took third with 46 points on a countback. Fabie Shilongo and Silas Shatumba completed the top five with 44 points.

Four players, Gert Breedt, Corné Schalkwyk, Bennie Venter and Kobus van Schalkwyk, were also awarded two clubs during the competition.

The busy golfing weekend concluded on Sunday with the club’s Monthly Sages Competition, kindly sponsored by Puma Chemicals. A good field turned out early despite the weather improving considerably, with players showing their support for the long-standing sponsor.

Two-club prizes went to Tony Boesch and Pine Van Wyk on the seventh hole, while Wim Hollander claimed one on the 16th. Nearest-to-the-pin honours went to Pine Van Wyk on No. 7 and Cashbox Van Wyk on No. 12.

Hollander also won the Longest Drive on No. 17, while a five-way tie for first place saw Achmet Abrahams, Rina Knight, Mark Jacobs, Wim Hollander and newcomer Gert Breedt all finish on 36 points.

The weekend ended on a humorous note, with Tony Boesch taking the Most Golf award.

With the Coastal qualifiers now preparing for the National Final, Rossmund Golf Club wished all seven teams the best of luck as they battle for the opportunity to represent the region on the international stage.
