The Lions Club of Swakopmund’s fourth Annual Golf Day attracted 26 teams to the Rossmund Golf Course last week Friday, raising funds for the club’s Frail Care Centre and Old Age Home.

The tournament brought together golfers, businesses, sponsors and community partners in support of services for elderly residents, with proceeds aimed at ensuring continued care and support at the facility.

Momentum Short-Term Insurance served as the title sponsor of the event, while Seaworks Fish Processors, Moon Mountain Lodge, DZ Golf and Rossmund Golf Course were among the major sponsors. According to the Lions Club, numerous companies and individuals also contributed by donating prizes, sponsoring water holes and supporting the event, enabling every participating team to receive a prize.

Team WIWW Energy & Mining, comprising Warren Theron, Warren Theron Jr and Hans Noabeb, claimed first place. Team Synapse, represented by Christopher Hill, Joe Hermann and Pieter van Aarde, finished second, while Team Coastal Hire, made up of Harry Botha, Jaco Blaauw and Marc Gregan, secured third place.

The Lions Club also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers who assisted with organising the tournament, with special recognition given to Dan Zwiebel for his role in coordinating the event. In a statement, the club thanked golfers, sponsors, volunteers and supporters for helping to make the fundraiser a success, saying the event demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when businesses, community organisations and individuals work together for a common cause.

The club said the annual Golf Day reflects the Lions motto, “We Serve”, with every sponsorship, donation and round of golf contributing towards improving the quality of life of residents at the Lions Old Age Home and Frail Care Centre. Following this year’s successful tournament, the Lions Club of Swakopmund said it looks forward to hosting its fifth annual Golf Day in July 2027.
