Piet Van Niekerk returned to the top of the leaderboard as golfers got back into competitive action following two weeks of green maintenance, winning the latest club competition with an impressive 38 points at Walvis Bay Golf Club.

A field of 27 players took to the course under difficult conditions, with Van Niekerk producing the best round to claim first place. Andre Burger finished second on 37 points, just one point behind the winner, while Wouter Van Wijk secured third place with 36 points.

Two clubs were also recorded during the competition, with Jakkie de Witt and Francois Champion achieving the feat. The club paid tribute to its greens staff for their commitment and hard work during the maintenance period, saying their efforts helped prepare the course for players to return to competition.

Last Wednesday’s competition saw Pieter Etsebeth take first place with 22 points, followed by Christo Muller on 21 and Bertus Fokkens on 19.

The Thursday seniors’ competition produced a tight finish, with Bossie Bosman winning on 39 points after beating Pieter Etsebeth on a count-out. Dawn finished third with 34 points, while Tienie de Wet won the brood.

Attention now turns to Saturday’s Individual Stableford.

Meanwhile, the cancer fundraiser scheduled for 17 October has been postponed to February 2027.
