Excitement is building ahead of the 9th Annual Swakop Uranium Husab Marathon, which will take place on 15 August 2026, after organisers announced a record 3,530 registered participants for this year’s event.

Speaking at the official launch, organisers revealed that the marathon has grown into one of Namibia’s leading road-running events, attracting elite athletes, recreational runners, families and fitness enthusiasts from across the country. This year’s entries include 165 marathon runners, 846 half-marathon participants, 1,681 runners in the 10-kilometre race and 837 competitors in the 5-kilometre Fun Run.

One of the marathon’s unique attractions is its route along the Husab Mine access road, regarded as one of Namibia’s best-engineered roads. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the race offers participants a rare opportunity to experience world-class running conditions in one of the world’s oldest and most spectacular desert landscapes.

The Husab Marathon has also earned international recognition as a qualifying race for major endurance events, including the Abbott World Marathon Majors, the Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon. This status continues to attract top Namibian athletes competing for one of the country’s most lucrative road-running prize purses.

Beyond elite competition, organisers emphasised that the marathon promotes healthy living, community participation and family involvement. Runners and spectators can look forward to a festive atmosphere featuring entertainment throughout the day, with celebrated Namibian musician Gazza set to headline the event.

With registrations now officially closed, organisers have encouraged all entrants to honour their commitment and participate on race day. Extensive preparations have been made to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, including water stations every two kilometres, comprehensive medical services, route marshals, refreshments and the renowned hospitality of Swakop Uranium.

The organisers also expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, volunteers, athletics officials and the organising committee for their continued support in helping establish the Husab Marathon as one of Namibia’s most anticipated annual sporting events.

The 9th Annual Swakop Uranium Husab Marathon promises to celebrate fitness, family, community and the remarkable beauty of Namibia while reinforcing the company’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles through sport.
