Charles Shayamano and Nathaniel Mudzingwa emerged victorious in the final round of the King Price Pairs competition at Walvis Bay Golf Club last weekend, earning 47 points to secure top honours.
Schalk van Wyk and Grant Mather finished second on 44 points, while David Peake and Jonathan Mather completed the podium in third place.
The victory also secured Shayamano and Mudzingwa a place in the King Price Pairs regional play-offs, which will be held at Rossmund Golf Club on 15 August, where they will join other qualifiers competing for further honours. The competition also produced four two-club winners, with Piet Fox, Piet van Niekerk, Grant Mather and Shane Westerdale each receiving N$50 for their achievements.
Meanwhile, the club’s annual Race to Membership produced a thrilling finish. Shane Westerdale clinched the title after chipping in on the 18th hole to secure victory over fellow contenders Koot Potgieter, Wilma de Wet and Tienie de Wet.
The annual competition carries a prize valued at approximately N$12 000, comprising a year’s club membership and annual green fees.
Elsewhere, the club’s World Cup Soccer Pool was won by Wouter van Wijk, with Willie van Zyl finishing runner-up just one point behind. Nardo Sardinha and Bertus Venter shared third place.
The Open Pool was won by Shane Westerdale, ahead of Willie Venter Jr in second and Emile Vilbert in third. Attention now turns to this weekend’s annual interclub challenge, with Walvis Bay Golf Club set to host Tsumeb Golf Club, the defending champions, who will arrive with 12 teams looking to retain the trophy.
In the Thursday Seniors competition, newcomer Pieter Estebeth claimed victory with an impressive 48 points, ahead of Bertus Fokkens on 39 points, while Dawn Dippenaar finished third.
A busy Golf Calendar Awaits Walvis Bay Club Members
Walvis Bay Golf Club members have a busy schedule ahead, with a packed calendar of competitions and interclub fixtures lined up over the coming weeks.
The action gets underway on 25 July when the club hosts Tsumeb Golf Club in their annual interclub challenge, before attention shifts to the Walvis Bay Medals Flags Competition on 1 August. The Local Sages competition follows on 2 August, while rugby supporters can enjoy the NSC Bulls vs WP fixture on 8 August.
Golf returns on 15 August with the Multisave Medal, followed by the Indondo Tournament on 22 August and the Bachmus Competition on 29 August.
September opens with the Nedbank Tournament on 5 September, another Local Sages event on 6 September, and the Chain Competition on 11 September.
Club officials have encouraged members to note the dates and participate in the upcoming events, with further announcements expected, including a special event planned for 21 August.
