The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has officially launched the 22nd Namibia Annual Sports Awards (NASA), with nominations opened on 17 July and set to close on 31 August 2026.
The launch, held at the NBC headquarters in Windhoek, marked the start of the annual awards programme that recognises outstanding achievements by athletes, coaches, administrators and technical officials across the country.
Speaking at the event, NSC Chief Administrator Dr. Simataa Mwiya said the awards play a vital role in recognising excellence and celebrating those who contribute to the growth of sport in Namibia.
He noted that, in line with Section 30 of the Namibia Sports Act (Act 12 of 2003), the Namibia Sports Commission is mandated to recognise sporting excellence annually.
“The awards are an important platform to acknowledge the commitment, leadership and achievements of athletes, coaches, administrators and technical officials who continue to elevate Namibian sport,” Mwiya said.
Deputy Director of the Namibia Annual Sports Awards, Magic Nyambe, announced that nominations will be submitted through an online platform open to national sports federations, stakeholders and the public.
She said the 2026 edition introduces several new award categories aimed at strengthening sports governance and recognising contributions beyond competition.
Nyambe stated that the new categories are Sport Administrator of the Year, a Sustainable Development Programme Award, and other awards aligned with international best practices, ensuring greater recognition for individuals and organisations working behind the scenes.
“We want to reward those efforts that are done behind the scenes so that we recognise these individuals,” Nyambe said.
She added that the expanded categories will also improve Namibia’s alignment with continental and international sports awards while encouraging excellence in administration, governance and clean sport.
Nyambe further announced that the 22nd Namibia Annual Sports Awards ceremony will take place on 14 November 2026 in Nkurenkuru, following last year’s successful event in Omuthiya.
He called on the corporate sector, the media and sports stakeholders to support the commission in delivering another world-class awards ceremony.
The Namibia Annual Sports Awards remain the country’s premier platform for recognising sporting excellence and honouring those whose achievements continue to inspire the nation both on and off the field.
