The Spring Football Festival brought together 215 young footballers for a day of competitive action, teamwork and sportsmanship on Saturday, 10 October, with 18 teams competing across three age categories.

The festival featured Under-9 teams playing five-a-side football, Under-11 teams competing in seven-a-side matches and Under-13 sides contesting nine-a-side fixtures. Participating teams included hosts Matuta Flames, Tutaleni Academy, Playtime from Atlantis, Prominence Private School, MK Academy and Chainbreakers.

The tournament attracted six teams in the Under-9 division, five in Under-11 and seven in Under-13, providing young players with an opportunity to showcase their talent while gaining valuable match experience. Prominence Private School U/09 emerged as Under-9 champions after an impressive campaign, overcoming strong opposition to secure the title.

Matuta Flames AFC U/11 claimed the Under-11 crown following a series of competitive encounters in the knockout stages, while Tutaleni Academy secured the Under-13 championship. Across the three divisions, 46 matches were played, producing 64 goals and highlighting the enthusiasm and competitive spirit on display throughout the day.

Beyond the results, the festival aimed to strengthen grassroots football, promote sportsmanship and build relationships between schools, academies and local clubs. The event also provided an important platform for young players to develop their technical abilities, build confidence and learn the values of teamwork and discipline.

Organisers praised the players, coaches and supporters for contributing to a successful festival, highlighting their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the competition. The Spring Football Festival demonstrated the value of community-based sporting initiatives in nurturing young talent and creating positive opportunities for children through football.

With schools, academies and local clubs coming together, the event offered an encouraging example of how grassroots sport can strengthen community ties while helping develop the next generation of footballers. Pictures Contributed,
