The Swakopmund Museum officially introduced its 2026 Youth Ambassadors during a well-attended inauguration ceremony held on 28 March at the museum’s lecture hall.
The event brought together a wide cross-section of the community, including Swakopmund Mayor, Councillor Suamma Kautondokwa, educators, family members, and representatives of the Scientific Society Swakopmund, which governs the museum. Proceedings opened with welcoming remarks by Masters of Ceremony Erna Abes and Stephanie Uises, both serving as Youth Ambassadors, followed by a prayer led by Enny Netumbo. In her address, Mayor Kautondokwa emphasised the important role young people play in preserving cultural heritage and promoting community involvement. Chairpersons of the Youth Ambassadors programme also shared personal reflections on their experiences, highlighting the positive impact the initiative has had on their growth and development. Youth Ambassador Coordinator Nadine Phiri presented an overview of the programme’s achievements over the past year, while members of the 2025 cohort were recognised for their contributions and awarded certificates and reference letters. Following the formal programme, guests were invited to explore the museum, where the newly appointed 2026 ambassadors showcased various exhibits, offering informative and engaging presentations. Their enthusiasm and knowledge added to the overall experience for attendees. The ceremony concluded with the official introduction of the new ambassadors and the announcement of their roles, followed by refreshments and an opportunity for guests to interact with the participants.
