The Municipality of Walvis Bay has taken a significant step towards addressing the growing demand for serviced land and affordable housing through a new partnership with Development Workshop Namibia (DWN).
The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which aims to accelerate land development projects in the town and create more housing opportunities for residents. The initiative follows a Council resolution adopted in April for the joint development of Portion No. 15 Green Valley, Green Valley Extension 5, and Portion No. 17 Narraville. Once completed, the project is expected to deliver approximately 1 100 residential erven. Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Municipality’s Chief Executive Officer, Victoria Kapenda, said the agreement directly addresses the needs of the community. “This Memorandum of Understanding speaks directly to the needs of our community. Development Workshop Namibia has extensive experience in this field and has demonstrated its ability to successfully deliver projects of this nature. We now look forward to working together to ensure that the project is implemented within the agreed timeframes,” she said.
Mayor of Walvis Bay, Councillor Johannes Shimbilinga, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the importance of increasing access to serviced land. “It is encouraging to see this initiative come to fruition. Access to serviced land remains one of the key needs of our community, and this partnership represents an important step towards addressing that need,” he said. Chairperson of the Management Committee, Councillor Ephraim Shozi, described the agreement as a milestone for both the Municipality and residents of Walvis Bay. “This is a milestone achievement for the Municipality and the residents of Walvis Bay. We encourage Development Workshop Namibia to prioritise this project so that implementation can commence as soon as possible,” he said.
The Municipality believes the partnership will help fast-track the development process and contribute towards meeting the increasing demand for residential land in Walvis Bay. The project is expected to play an important role in expanding housing opportunities and supporting the town’s future growth.
