The Swakop Uranium Foundation has invested approximately N$500 000 to upgrade the Epako Old Age Home and the Light for the Children Kindergarten in Gobabis, reaffirming its commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities.

The official handover took place on 3 August and was attended by Omaheke Governor Hon. Pijoo Nganate, regional leaders, Swakop Uranium representatives and members of the local community.

The Epako Old Age Home received a range of upgrades, including new kitchen equipment, a television, pharmacy shelving, a washing machine, lounge furniture, repainting and fumigation, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for its residents.

The kindergarten benefited from repainting as well as repairs to its windows and doors, providing a more welcoming space for young learners.

Speaking at the ceremony, Swakop Uranium Foundation Chairperson Percy McCallum said the Foundation is committed to ensuring that the benefits of mining extend beyond its operations by investing in projects that create lasting social impact.

Governor Nganate welcomed the initiative, describing it as a valuable investment in the wellbeing of the region’s elderly residents and children. The Foundation said it will continue supporting projects that advance education, healthcare, social welfare and sustainable community development across Namibia.
