Road maintenance, repairs and street-sweeping activities are continuing across Walvis Bay as the municipality works to improve road conditions and keep public spaces clean.

The Municipality of Walvis Bay said teams are currently carrying out pothole repairs and road resealing on several roads across town. These works are separate from the major road rehabilitation projects being undertaken through the Municipality’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Roads Authority (RA) and Roads Fund Administration (RFA).

At the same time, various municipal teams have been deployed across Walvis Bay for mass street sweeping. The sweeping is aimed at removing sand and debris from streets, maintaining clean and safe public spaces and supporting upcoming road repair and maintenance activities in different areas.

For the week of 31 August to 4 September, street-sweeping teams were scheduled to work in the following areas:

Teams 1 to 4: CBD – Hage Geingob Street, Theo-Ben Gurirab Avenue and Sam Nujoma Avenue

Team 5: Extended CBD – 9th Road

Teams 6 to 8: Kuisebmond – Kabeljou

Team 9: Naraville – Sam Nujoma Avenue

The municipality said the schedule is indicative and may change depending on weather conditions and operational priorities. Residents and road users are urged to be cautious when approaching street-sweeping and road maintenance teams. Motorists are requested to reduce their speed, follow road signs and instructions from road crews, maintain a safe following distance and give workers enough space to carry out their duties safely. The municipality also appealed to motorists to drive responsibly around work areas and help protect road and street-sweeping workers while the maintenance activities are under way.
