Nictus Furnishers is preparing to open its upgraded Nictus Mega showroom at a new development on Nangolo Mbumba Drive in Walvis Bay, forming part of a broader investment of more than N$100 million across two sites and six stores.
Nictus Furnishers Managing Director Francois Wahl said the development includes Nictus Mega, a furniture store that will be one of the anchor businesses at the development, alongside Tiger Wheel & Tyre. Wahl stressed that the furniture store represents a relocation and upgrade of Nictus’ existing Walvis Bay operation, rather than a completely new market entry.
The current Nictus showroom on Theo Ben Gurirab Street has been operating since 2022. According to Wahl, the new showroom will offer a significantly upgraded retail environment, with a look and feel similar to Nictus Giga in Windhoek. The ground-floor and mezzanine showroom will cover approximately 2 600 square metres, providing the company with greater space to expand its product offering for customers along the coast. Wahl said the investment builds on Nictus’ existing presence in Walvis Bay and forms part of the group’s wider coastal expansion strategy.
The company sees growing economic activity in Walvis Bay, including developments linked to the oil and gas sector, as contributing to increased demand from households and businesses. “The current Walvis Bay showroom has been trading successfully since 2022,” Wahl said, adding that the new development allows the company to upgrade its retail footprint while offering coastal customers a wider variety of products. Construction on the site began in October 2025 and remained underway during the group’s latest update in May 2026. Nictus Mega is expected to open to the public in the second half of October.
The development is also expected to contribute to employment and local economic activity. Wahl said a larger furniture operation would typically require additional retail and support staff. The development could also generate opportunities for local delivery, installation and after-sales services, while supporting suppliers and logistics businesses in the region. The company expects the broader development to improve convenience for consumers while contributing to employment and local economic activity. Wahl said Walvis Bay’s position as a strategic port city, combined with increasing construction and economic activity, makes the town an important market for the group.
The growth associated with oil and gas developments could bring more people and businesses to the coast, potentially increasing demand for housing-related products and services. For Nictus Furnishers, the new showroom represents the next phase of its coastal growth following the expansion of its Walvis Bay presence in 2022. Although Nictus has not announced another furniture-specific investment in Walvis Bay beyond the new showroom, Wahl has indicated that the coast remains an important part of its broader growth strategy. Wahl said no additional furniture development in Walvis Bay has been confirmed at this stage.
For residents, the immediate offering will be a larger and upgraded Nictus Mega showroom, a wider product selection and potential additional employment opportunities. The company said the development should not be viewed as a standalone furniture project, but as one component of a larger multi-brand investment aimed at strengthening Nictus Group’s presence in Walvis Bay and the wider Erongo Region.
