National rail operator TransNamib has dismissed its Executive Human Capital, Webster Gonzo, following an internal disciplinary process that found him guilty of several charges of gross negligence and breaching the company’s code of conduct and ethics.

The dismissal took effect on Monday, 26 October 2026, and follows investigations into the company’s alienation project, which has been subjected to both internal audit scrutiny and an external forensic investigation.

In a statement issued in Windhoek on Tuesday, TransNamib confirmed that the disciplinary proceedings followed an internal audit investigation conducted during 2025 and 2026. The company’s former board authorised an external forensic investigation in 2025, with the findings contributing to the subsequent disciplinary process.

Gonzo retains the right to appeal the dismissal in accordance with company policies. The decision comes months after Gonzo was temporarily suspended in February amid allegations relating to property management and statutory compliance. He returned to work in May following a directive from Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi, who instructed the newly appointed TransNamib board to facilitate the return of suspended executives.

TransNamib further confirmed that the alienation project investigation was referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in June 2026. The commission has approved the case for further investigation.

The dismissal marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of TransNamib’s internal governance and accountability. However, the company has not publicly detailed the specific conduct underlying each disciplinary charge in its announcement.
