Erongo Region Governor Natalia /Goagoses has called for to increase Namibian participation in the mining sector, particularly among contractors.

She made the remarks during a familiarisation visit to the, on Tuesday, where she led a regional delegation that included six constituency councillors and senior regional officials. The delegation, comprising representatives from Walvis Bay Urban and Rural, Arandis, Omaruru, and Karibib, as well as Deputy Director and Chief Regional Officer Dr Sam Ntelamo, engaged with mine management on operations and development initiatives.

Langer Heinrich Managing Director Johan Roux, alongside Paladin Energy Chief Operating Officer Scott Barber, hosted the delegation and provided an overview of the mine’s activities. Presentations were also delivered by company officials responsible for safety, human resources and mining operations. The mine currently employs about 860 workers, including contractors. Of these, 415 are permanent employees, with nearly 99% being Namibian nationals.

Company representatives also highlighted ongoing corporate social responsibility programmes, noting that millions have been invested in development projects across the Erongo Region. While acknowledging the company’s adherence to national mining policies and its investment in local communities, /Goagoses stressed the need for increased opportunities for Namibians within the sector. She further commended the Langer Heinrich management team for maintaining consistent engagement with the Office of the Governor.
