Erongo Regional Governor Dr Nathalia /Goagoses has called for stronger aviation safety measures, improved coordination and practical interventions to protect lives while supporting the region’s economic growth.
Speaking at the two-day Coastal Aviation Safety Workshop in Swakopmund, /Goagoses said aviation plays a vital role in supporting tourism, mining, fishing, logistics and maritime services, making safety essential to the region’s continued development. She stressed that the growth of coastal aviation must be matched by strict safety standards, including competent pilots, proper aircraft maintenance, effective flight planning and full compliance with aviation regulations.
The governor urged the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), aviation operators, local authorities, tourism stakeholders and relevant government institutions to turn the workshop’s recommendations into measurable actions with clear timelines. “I therefore call upon the NCAA, aviation operators, local authorities, tourism stakeholders and relevant government institutions to translate the outcomes of this workshop into practical, measurable interventions,” she said. /Goagoses also called for stronger coordination between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, improved aviation infrastructure and operational capacity, and greater consideration of concerns affecting local communities and the environment.
She emphasised that aviation safety should be viewed as an investment in Erongo’s long-term economic prosperity rather than an obstacle to growth. She also highlighted the importance of developing aviation links that connect the region to opportunities beyond Namibia’s borders. The workshop brought together stakeholders to discuss coastal aviation safety challenges and strengthen cooperation across the industry.
