Kuisebmond Secondary School (KSS) in Walvis Bay is celebrating a series of outstanding academic achievements after learners excelled in both the Science Fair and the Bank of Namibia High School Challenge, earning the opportunity to represent the Erongo Region at national competitions.
The achievements highlight the school’s commitment to academic excellence and reflect the dedication of learners, teachers and parents in fostering a culture of hard work and success. One of the school’s standout performers, Grade 12 learner Pehovelo Himufe, claimed a gold medal at the Circuit Science Fair before repeating the feat at the Erongo Regional Science Fair to qualify for the National Science Fair in September.Her project, StudyBel: An Application Study Coach to Improve Time Management and Academic Performance Among Learners, explores how artificial intelligence can help learners develop effective study habits, improve time management and reduce academic stress through personalised coaching and progress tracking. Other learners also impressed at circuit level, with Gift Shilongo receiving a silver medal, while Grade 8 learners Meriam Shikolalye and Mercy Sai Sai, together with another Grade 8 participant, were awarded bronze medals for their scientific projects.
KSS also emerged as champions of the Erongo Regional Bank of Namibia High School Challenge, finishing ahead of Kolin Foundation Secondary School and Kamwandi Secondary School. The victorious team comprised Morgen Fostinus, Glifton Gurirab, Bertha Shange and Benisia Nekunya, under the guidance of Economics teacher Mr Handiya. Their victory secured qualification for the national finals, which will take place in Windhoek later this year. The competition tests learners’ knowledge of financial literacy, monetary policy, the role of the Bank of Namibia and key economic issues affecting the country. School management recently hosted a celebration to honour the learners’ achievements, recognising not only the medals and trophies earned but also the dedication, preparation and teamwork that made the successes possible.
As the August examination period gets underway, the school has encouraged learners to remain focused and committed, reminding them that success is built through consistent preparation, discipline and perseverance. Parents and guardians have also been urged to continue supporting learners by encouraging regular study, ensuring school attendance, providing a conducive learning environment at home and promoting healthy routines during the examination period. Kuisebmond Secondary School wished Pehovelo Himufe and the Bank of Namibia High School Challenge team every success as they prepare to represent the Erongo Region on the national stage, reaffirming the school’s reputation for producing learners who excel both inside and outside the classroom.
