NAC Unveils N1.3 Million FIDS 1

The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has completed the installation of a state-of-the-art Flight Information Display System (FIDS) at Walvis Bay International Airport, a N$1.3 million investment aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and modernising airport operations.

The new system marks another milestone in the airport’s digital transformation programme, providing travellers with real-time flight information throughout the terminal and improving the overall customer experience. Strategically positioned digital display screens have been installed at key passenger touchpoints, including check-in counters, departure lounges, waiting areas and other service locations. The displays provide up-to-date information on arrivals, departures, boarding times, gate allocations and operational changes, ensuring passengers remain informed throughout their journey.

The FIDS comprises advanced display software, high-quality professional screens, dedicated operator workstations and a robust server environment designed to deliver reliable and efficient performance. The technology enables airport staff to update and manage flight information seamlessly, ensuring timely communication with travellers. The new system is expected to significantly improve passenger flow within the terminal by reducing uncertainty and making essential travel information more visible and easily accessible. Travellers will be able to monitor flight schedules and updates at a glance, contributing to a smoother and more convenient airport experience.

Beyond improving the passenger journey, the system also offers operational benefits for airline partners by strengthening communication with passengers and improving coordination across airport operations. This is expected to support greater efficiency and help maintain high standards of service delivery. The Namibia Airports Company said the implementation of the Flight Information Display System reflects its continued commitment to service excellence and the development of world-class airport facilities. As passenger expectations continue to evolve, the company says investments in modern technology are essential to ensuring Walvis Bay International Airport remains efficient, customer-focused and aligned with international best practices.

The latest upgrade forms part of NAC’s broader strategy to modernise Namibia’s aviation infrastructure while positioning Walvis Bay International Airport as a key gateway for domestic and international travellers.
