The Swakopmund Municipality has donated two Peugeot vehicles to the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) in the Erongo Region to strengthen policing and improve public safety.
The official handover took place on Friday, 10 July, at the Swakopmund Fire Station and was attended by government officials, municipal representatives, members of NAMPOL and invited guests. The keynote address, delivered on behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Honourable Lucia Iipumbu, was presented by Deputy Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Honourable Inecia Brandt. Brandt praised the Swakopmund Municipality for its continued support of the police and its commitment to community safety.
She said effective policing depends on strong partnerships between government, local authorities, law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. She encouraged continued cooperation to prevent crime and create a safer environment for residents. Swakopmund Mayor, Councillor Suamma Kautondokwa, said the municipality remains committed to supporting law enforcement through investments that improve public safety and the well-being of the community. “Community safety is a shared responsibility, and together we can build a safer and more prosperous Swakopmund,” she said. The two vehicles were officially handed over to Erongo Regional Commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona, who accepted the donation on behalf of NAMPOL.
According to the municipality, the vehicles will be deployed to the DRC and Mondesa Police Stations, where they are expected to improve police mobility, visibility and response times. Commissioner Kupembona thanked the municipality for its support, saying the donation comes at an important time as the Erongo Region has been experiencing a shortage of traffic patrol vehicles.
He said the vehicles will immediately be used for traffic law enforcement operations to strengthen road safety and policing in the region. Kupembona also expressed concern over the increasing number of road crashes in Erongo. He said the additional vehicles will improve police visibility, reduce response times to road traffic incidents and strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws. He assured the municipality that the vehicles will be used responsibly and for their intended purpose of serving and protecting the people of Swakopmund and the wider Erongo Region.
