The Municipality of Walvis Bay is strengthening its waste management services with the addition of two new skip trucks and several new skips, aimed at improving refuse collection across the town.

The two trucks, supplied by Hino Pupkewitz Windhoek earlier this week, each have a loading capacity of nine tonnes. The trucks have a combined value of N$4 350 998. The new vehicles will be used to empty and service skips that will be placed at various locations around Walvis Bay in the coming weeks.

According to the municipality, the investment is aimed at strengthening its refuse removal fleet, reducing delays and making waste collection services more reliable for residents. Staff members who will operate the new trucks have also received training. Operators from the Solid Waste Management Division were recently trained in the use of the vehicles by Frank Schönmetzler from Hydraulic Repairs. The municipality said the new equipment forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve waste management operations and provide more consistent refuse removal services. However, while better equipment can help the municipality keep up with waste collection, keeping Walvis Bay clean remains a shared responsibility.

Residents are encouraged to make proper use of the waste facilities provided, keep their surroundings clean and avoid littering and illegal dumping. With more equipment now being added to the fleet, the municipality is putting additional resources into keeping the town clean. The challenge, however, remains one that requires cooperation from everyone who calls Walvis Bay home.
