Team Namibia’s lawn bowlers continued to produce encouraging performances at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, recording impressive victories in both the men’s and women’s competitions while displaying resilience against tough international opposition.
Namibia’s women’s pair produced a remarkable comeback to defeat India in a thrilling encounter. After conceding the opening set 7-5, the Namibians responded emphatically by dominating the second set 10-1 before completing the turnaround with a 3-0 victory in the tie-break.
The hard-fought win added another important result to Namibia’s campaign and highlighted the team’s determination under pressure.
The women’s pair of Amanda Steenkamp and Diana Viljoen also enjoyed success, defeating South Africa 7-4 in a composed performance that showcased their precision, teamwork and composure on the green. Namibia’s women, however, ended the day on a high after edging Malta in another dramatic contest. The Namibians claimed the opening set 4-3, before Malta levelled the match with an 8-0 victory in the second set. Namibia held their nerve in the deciding tie-break, securing a 1-0 win to claim the match.
The latest results underline the competitive spirit of Namibia’s bowls team as they continue to challenge some of the Commonwealth’s strongest nations while proudly representing the country on the international stage.
Following the victory, the pair celebrated the achievement with Namibia National Olympic Committee President Dr Ndeulipula Hamutumwa, marking another proud moment for Team Namibia at the Games.
The action continued during the evening session, where Waylon Wentzel faced a difficult challenge against Guernsey in the men’s singles. Despite a determined effort, Wentzel went down in straight sets, losing 7-3 and 8-2.
