Two young children were killed after they were struck by a vehicle while allegedly attempting to cross the road at the Karibib Roadblock on Thursday afternoon.
According to Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula of the Erongo Police, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 15:45 on 6 August 2026.
It is alleged that a 64-year-old Namibian man was driving a white ADVT70 double-cab from Osino Mine towards Karibib when he approached the roadblock.
Four minor children allegedly ran into the road in an attempt to cross. The driver reportedly tried to avoid hitting the children, but was unable to prevent the vehicle from striking two of them.
Both children were declared dead at the scene by LifeLink paramedics.
The deceased were identified as five-year-old kindergarten learner Nicodemus Toivo and six-year-old kindergarten learner Megameno Ndeshipanda Hilalius, both from Karibib.
The driver is licensed and tested negative for alcohol.
The children’s bodies were transported to the Usakos State Mortuary for storage, pending post-mortem examinations. Their next of kin were informed.
A culpable homicide case has been opened, and police investigations are ongoing.
